Frisco Family YMCA’s Chase Thomas receives Youth Character Award

(FRISCO, TX – April 16, 2015)  Frisco YMCA Texas Youth and Government (YG) member Chase Thomas was honored with the YMCA Youth Character Award, presented by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas during its 130th Annual Meeting held at the Belo Mansion on Thursday, April 9. The event saw four outstanding YMCA youth receive this award for their significant commitment and service to the YG programs of area YMCAs, presented by Cynde Coulsen of the YMCA Board of Directors’ executive committee.

As a current sophomore in high school, Chase has been a member of YG since he was in middle school. He served as chief clerk for the Hyde House, chair and clerk in the committees at several 3district and state conferences. Chase also serves on the Youth Leadership Council for Texans Standing Tall, an organization that advocates against abuse of alcohol and drugs for both minors and adults in Texas. In addition, he serves on the State Representatives for House, Jeff Leach’s student leadership advisory council.

The Frisco Y’s YG Club owes its success to Chase’s sense of responsibility because he commits to whatever he sets his mind to and is never too busy to help with a new task. He continues to show genuine concern for the Frisco YMCA YG Club and the Texas YG, and as he stays true to these values, there’s no doubt he will accomplish great things in this program and in his life.

Each year, the Dallas YMCA honors youth with the Youth Character Award for exemplifying the YMCA’s four primary values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in their everyday lives.

Chase led those in attendance in an invocation immediately following the presentation of the Sam Winstead Volunteer of the Year Award winners recognizing 29 amazing area volunteers for their continued commitment and generosity to YMCAs and communities across North Texas.

The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Across the U.S., 2,687 Ys engage 21 million men, women and children – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.  Anchored in 23 North Texas communities, the Dallas Y has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change. www.ymcadallas.org
