To date, local businesses have donated more than $400 in door prizes for the Rockwall Art League’s 14th Annual Fine Art Show, which returns October 3-5 to the Rockwall Rotary Building, 408 S. Goliad.

“The community has always been supportive, but this level of participation by our local businesses and restaurants is truly phenomenal. Everyone seems very excited to help us promote this year’s show, and we appreciate every bit of support,” said artist Darlene Dittoe.

Dittoe and Thom Loafman serve  as co-chairs of the 2014 event, which is free and open to public. Hundreds of art enthusiasts, buyers, friends, families and community members are expected to attend over the course of three days.

Show hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Mayor David Sweet will present the awards at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Sales of artwork will support RAL’s Tom Collins Memorial Fine Art Scholarship, which is given annually to a Rockwall graduating senior.

Nationally recognized, award-winning artist Rusty Jones will judge the Art Show, following in the footsteps of Nancy Boren, Cecy Turner, Andrew Wages, John Pototshnik, Sharon Serrago and other accomplished artists and judges. Cash awards will be presented for Best of Show, Oil, Acrylic, Water Media, Drawing, Photography, and Mixed Media/3-Dimensional. The People’s Choice Award, sponsored by RAL, gives visitors a chance to vote on their favorite piece of artwork. An Honorable Mention will also be recognized in each category.

Award sponsors include Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall, Milestone Electric, Lakeside National Bank Rockwall, Community Bank of Rockwall, North Texas Appliance, American National Bank, Toyota of Rockwall, LakePointeMedicalCenter, Local Cremation, Heritage GMC Buick Rockwall and Christian Brothers Automotive in Rockwall.

Rockwall’s Annual Rib Rub Run & Roll is also scheduled for Saturday, October 4, just down the street at The Center parking lot. The Old Town Shoppes and Main Street Manager Bethany Browning have said they believe that both events will benefit from the synchronization.

The list of local businesses helping to make this event a success continues to grow. At press time, the businesses donating door prizes included Milestone Electric, Christian Brothers Automotive, Candles by Carol, Zanata, Olive Garden, On the Border, Chiloso’s, Firehouse Subs and Edible Arrangements. Special thanks to The Flower Box for donating the centerpiece for the reception. Blue Ribbon News is a media sponsor.
