Lake Pointe Medical Center (LPMC), based in Rowlett, Texas, recently unveiled a series of renovations to its Women’s Services unit. The $170,000 project transformed the space into a brighter, more patient-friendly atmosphere.
Updates to the unit include a restructured waiting room, a redesigned nurse’s station, the integration of a new color scheme featuring soothing blues and soft greens and the addition of inspirational words on the hospital walls. The installation of floor-to-ceiling windows gives the space a storefront feel that patients and nurses agree is more visually appealing.
“It is important to us that patients and their loved ones feel at ease in an environment that is not only relaxing but aesthetically pleasing, too. Next to their health, the comfort of our patients is our primary concern in the Women’s Services unit. Renovations — big or small — like the ones we recently completed, ensure each person’s experience is more enjoyable, and helps provide a calming atmosphere during what can be stressful situations,” said Brett Lee, LPMC’s chief executive officer.
LPMC’s upgrades were made with each patient’s ultimate well-being in mind. Creating environments to promote health is a long-standing idea, stretching as far back as ancient Greece, where citizens utilized “nature, music and art to restore harmony and promote healing,” according to a study published in Minnesota Medicine. This same study claims that more than 600 articles have been published illustrating how aspects of healthcare design can influence patient outcomes. The right environment can reduce stress, while a space not carefully designed to minimize confusion and anxiety could potentially increase a patient’s muscle tension and raise their heart rate or blood pressure.
“We are excited about the recent updates to our department,” explains Sharon Groves, RN, director of Women’s Services at Lake Pointe Medical Center. “In addition to our skilled nursing staff, the renovations help us to provide a comforting environment for our patients and their families in one of the most exciting times of their lives.”
Recently, LPMC’s Women’s Services unit appeared on an episode of the Oxygen Network’s hit show “I’m Having Their Baby.” LPMC delivers approximately 1,200 babies each year, providing every baby with quality care and a family-centered approach. In addition to the Level I Nursery, LPMC offers a 17-bed Level II and Level III NICU for those deliveries requiring a higher level of care. LPMC provides the only Level II and Level III NICU in Rockwall County, enabling the hospital to provide advanced nursing care for infants born prematurely, infants with special needs and/or infants who are medically compromised. This advanced level of service allows mother and baby to stay together after delivery. For more information, visit our website at www.lakepointemedical.com.
