Ashley Burns, 5th Grade Teacher at Shannon Elementary, has students learning in a flexible seating environment. Flexible seating in classrooms increases student performance and keeps students more engaged in the classroom.

“I began researching ways to create greater success in the classroom. I decided to give flexible seating a shot and it was well worth it,” said Burns. “When you walk into my classroom you will see that students have the option to sit wherever works best for them. Some may be in chairs or on yoga balls at their desks but others may be seated on the floor using clipboards or beanbags.”

With the help of Burns’ Church and parents at Shannon Elementary she was able to raise almost $700 and purchased a classroom set of 30 yoga balls. So far students are loving this change!

“My Shannon Stars know that success comes when you’re proactively taking charge of your own learning,” said Burns.
