Ryan Ullom is a sophomore at Rockwall High School. He is very active in Rockwall Future Farmers of America (FFA), showing Pigs and Agriculture Mech Projects at the Rockwall County Fair and other major shows in Houston and San Antonio.
But 2016 was the first time for him to restore a tractor. The fruit of his efforts came with a 5th place showing out of 28 other tractor entries at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo.
“His hard work was rewarded greatly when he got the opportunity to finally drive what he had built,” said Rockwall ISD Agriculture teacher, Billy Fowler, “but he had to learn to drive since he was just 14 years old and had only driven a golf cart before this!”
Ryan spent over 500 hours restoring the 1947 Farmall B Tractor. Collin Cash, a 2016 graduate Senior from Rockwall-Heath High School, assisted with the sheet metal and body work. Just that part alone took over 150 hours.
The Farmall B tractor that was restored last year by the Rockwall FFA Tractor restoration team, is currently entered into the Delo National Tractor Restoration Contest. In order for our team to advance, they need your votes. Anyone who registers can vote three times a day. (When you register to vote, a registration confirmation email will be sent back to you. If you don’t receive it, check your junk mail folder.)
If the tractor makes it into the top 12, our Rockwall team will be interviewed and attend the awards ceremony at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
