Career Day at Cain Middle School

Thirty professionals from the Rockwall/Heath area recently took time from their busy schedules to talk with Cain Middle School students about their careers and college/career readiness.

Among those speaking were doctors, nurses, pharmacists, small business owners, construction workers and even the Dallas Cowboys. Students were able to learn about each field as well as ask the presenters questions.

“Career day was exciting!  It gave me more ideas of career paths I could take,” said Deja Beasley, an 8th grader at Cain.  “I always thought I wanted to be a pediatrician but after listening to a counselor speak during career day I am considering counseling or psychiatry. “

“It’s really an honor being asked to speak to students regarding my job and their futures,” said Bryan Munson, a telecommunications engineer.  “It is an amazing opportunity to put in front of students the blooming telecommunications field and showing them where it all started and where it is now.”

Rockwall ISD Superintendent Dr. Villarreal was also a guest speaker and Deja was his AVID student guide for the day.

“Now I know a teacher’s job isn’t as easy at all!  It’s not about pushing homework on kids like we sometimes feel like it is,” said Deja.  “Teachers are at work early, stay late and deal with a lot of stressful situations during the day.  Dr. Villarreal really opened my eyes to that.”

The faculty and students at Cain Middle School wish to thank each and every speaker for the giving of their time and talents.
