Rest Haven Memorial Park honored Veterans yesterday at their place of service in Rockwall, TX. This was the 42nd Annual Memorial Day Remembrance and Celebration held. Each year fourth grade students are encouraged to discover more about the meaning of Memorial Day.  Fourth grade students from Rowlett, Royse City and Rockwall entered an essay contest.  This year’s essay theme was “I Will Never Forget:  What can I do to honor veterans who died fighting for my freedom?” A Grand Prize winner and Runner up were selected from each city.

The Grand Prize winner for Rockwall ISD was Michaela Nottingham  from Billie Stevenson Elementary . Michaela read her essay at the event and won a donation of $100 dollars to her school’s library.

The Runner Up for Rockwall ISD was Ryan Axum from Ouida Springer Elementary.  Ryan won a donation of $50 dollars for his school’s library.

All other essay entries submitted from each school were on display for the Rest Haven Memorial Day Event.
