To encourage students to discover more about the meaning of Memorial Day, Rest Haven Memorial Park sponsored an essay contest for all 4th grade students in Rockwall ISD. Essays were written according to this year’s theme; “I Will Never Forget: How can I honor those who gave their lives for my freedom?”

Each school selected their top three entries and submitted them to the Contest Committee. The Committee then selected a grand prize winner, as well as 2nd and 3rd place.  The winning essay was written by Jake Parrish from Stevenson elementary. He was invited to read the winning essay at the 40th Annual Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 26th. Additionally, Rest Haven Memorial Park donated $200 to the library at Stevenson Elementary for Jake’s winning essay.

The 2nd and 3rd place winners and their families received special recognition at the program, and all entries submitted from each school were displayed at the celebration.
