Pullen Elementary 5th grade student, Alaina Pucylowski found out that a close family member was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to do something about it. She decided to talk to Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary Principal, Mrs. JaNiece Rainey and asked to do a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. With the whole hearted support of her parents and her Principal, she decided to get some of her friends involved as well. Pullen Elementary 4th grader Tessa Tremback and fifth graders, Garret Cecil, Michael Allen, and Ethan Johnson helped her go around her neighborhood and ask for donations. Alaina and her friends also set up a fund raising table at school and sold American Cancer Society pins. These Pullen Elementary leaders have raised 500 dollars and presented their check to the American Cancer Society. Alaina and her friends’ future plans include to continue to raise money for the American Cancer Society through a website and organize and host a School Wide Relay for Life in May at Pullen Elementary. When asked what she and her friends learned through this experience she said , “That helping people is really fun and that teamwork makes a job so much easier!” Pullen Elementary is proud of our Pullen Panther leaders who continue to incorporate Steven Covey’s Leader In Me Seven Basic Habits to make our school and their world a better place through their generous donation of time, creativity, and compassion.
