On Wednesday, February 11, 2015, the Heath Student Council Pride Patrol made its first middle school visit to Utley Middle School. Student Council Advisor Leah Voth was accompanied by 7 Pride Patrol members, who took the signature red-and-black themed goodie basket and framed plaque to gift to the honoree.

“It was exhilarating to see the excitement on Mrs. Shultz’ face when we went in to recognize her,” Junior Pride Patrol member Carly Brown said.

“I love letting teachers know how much we truly appreciate them,” Senior Lexi Greenhill said.

The nomination, submitted by Assistant Principal Dr. Shenequa Miller, reads as follows:

Diagnostician Deborah Shultz has been at Utley the last 2 years.  In that time she has helped the entire campus with donations that directly benefit students and teachers.  She was the lead on the “12 days of Christmas” for the staff where there was a gift for everyone 12 different days, ranging from food from restaurants to gift cards to area businesses.  Mrs. Shultz has been a part of finding school supplies and backpacks for students who are in need and will give students food or drinks if they are hungry throughout the day.  As a diagnostician, Mrs. Shultz goes above and beyond to make sure students are getting the help to reach their full potential.   The numerous ARD meetings of which she has been a part of and extra help she provides teachers and staff is beyond anyone’s expectations.  Mrs. Shultz is a great asset to the Utley campus and [we are] glad to see recognition coming her way.

Principal Todd Bradford led the Pride Patrol crew through the building, where celebratory UMS staff snapped photos as the group approached Shultz’ classroom. When they arrived at her door and went in cheering and clapping, Shultz was humble and grateful and beamed as the nomination was read aloud.

“Pride Patrol is a cool way to meet new people in the district and to take Hawk pride to other campuses,” Senior Ryan McKay said.

“Each week Pride Patrol becomes even better because people are starting to understand our purpose and who we are as we walk down their halls,” Student Council Vice-President Annabelle Baker said.

“I love how we’ve really gotten into the routine of recognizing these teachers, and it’s so fun to see how the staff and our Pride Patrol group are filled with excitement every time!” Junior Britton Swanson said.

“Thank you so much for having your students come out. That was a TOTAL shock. It is very hard to ever see me speechless or SHY, but you guys did it today!!!!! WOW.

I am very blessed to work with a wonderful faculty and staff. When I heard that Mr. Bradford was being named Utley Principal I requested to join his team. Working alongside Mr. Bradford at RHHS was one of my favorite times in my career. Now being in meetings at Utley with Mr. Girardi and Dr. Miller and the Utley faculty and SPED students makes me want to come to work each day. Utley is a wonderful place of learning where all students are welcomed and nurtured.  It is an honor to be part of their family,” Shultz said.

“Any opportunity to recognize a staff member for their kindness and genuine positive regard for others, is a sure treat!  Thank you Heath-Student Council for making a positive impact on all campuses in Rockwall ISD.  You are appreciated!!” UMS Assistant Principal Dr. Shenequa Miller said.
