RHS Jacket Backers March Athletes of the Month
Congratulations to RHS Jacket Backers March Athletes of the Month Trace Stephenson and Darryan Welborn.
Listed below are all of the outstanding accomplishments made by these athletes during the month of March.
- Trace Stephenson, Senior – Baseball: Trace pitched in five games in the month of March, with 18.2 innings. He went 2-0 only giving up one earned run for a 0.375 ERA, with only 2 walks and 19 strikeouts. Quote from Coach Payne, “Trace has worked his way into pitching our biggest relief innings and will start some district games as the season progresses. Hitters hate facing his submarine fastball and curve ball.”
- Darryan Welborn, Senior – Softball: In 13 games in the month of March, Darryan had a batting average of .676 (hitting .630 for the season), an on base percentage of .689 and is hitting .667 with runners in scoring position. She had 33 RBIs and is leading the team with 41, which is on pace for an all-time record. Darryan also hit 6 HRs in March, including 3 HRs in the final game of the month against Rockwall-Heath. Quote from Coach Acosta, “Darryan has been a player that we have been incredibly excited about since she arrived her freshman year. She has grown and developed each year and is really showing that she is at the top of her game as a senior. Darryan is a player that both her coaches and her teammates can depend on to get the job done no matter the stakes. Her consistency and power at the plate and defensively is undeniable but her growth as a leader has been most impressive. We appreciate all of the work she puts towards improving her game and all that she contributes to the team.”
