Rockwall High School Jacket Backers October Athletes of the Month

 

Congratulations to Jacket Backer October Athletes of the Month Emilia Landivar-Nunez, Korrey Barron, and Hollie James!
Listed below are all of the outstanding accomplishments made by theses athletes during the month of October. 

  • Coach Howell had this to say about Freshman Cross Country runner Emilia Landivar-Nunez:

Emilia was the district 11-6A individual champion in a time of 19:48. She has been a very consistent runner all year and at the district Championship she stepped it up and pulled out the championship for herself and helped the team to a district championship. She has done a superb job coming on at the end of the season when it really mattered. She is an extremely hard worker and has great enthusiasm for the all she does. Quote from Coach Howell, “She is like the energizer bunny and seems to never get tired.  Her high energy gives her what she needs to be very good at this sport and she uses it!!”

  • Coach Webb had this to say about Senior Football player Korrey Barron:

Korrey had a fantastic month of October, recording six sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and 38 total tackles. He has also been a tremendous leader for the defense all season. Korrey has been the heart and soul of a defense that has gone from worst to first in 11-6A over the past six weeks. Quote from Coach Webb, “Korrey Barron is very deserving of this Athlete of the Month honor.  He represents our football program in a very positive manner.”

  • Coach Watkins had this to say about Sophomore Golfer Hollie James:

Hollie led the Jackets in scoring in all 3 tournaments. She placed second overall at the Plano invitational. Hollie is a hard worker and is a leader for the Lady Jackets, and she is only a sophomore!! Quote from Coach Watkins, “Great talent. Hard worker. She is a great kid with a bright future as a lady jacket and at the next level as well.”

Congratulations to Jacket Backer September Athletes of the Month River Hill and Ginger Stephenson!

Coach Howell had this to say about Freshman Cross Country athlete River Hill. 
River Hill, Freshman, Cross Country - River has been one of the highest finishers on the team the last three meets. He placed 10th in a time of 17:35 at the Stallion Stampede last week. He is a freshmen who has already ran under 17 in 5K. As a freshmen he has placed in the top 10 at 5 of the 6 meets the team has attended so far this season. That’s impressive!! – From the coach. “River has the greatest potential of any runner that has come through Rockwall in the last 10 years”

Also nominated: Lo'Yer Bailey (Senior) for Football

Coach Wilson had this to say about Senior Volleyball player Ginger Stephenson.
Ginger Stephenson, Senior, Volleyball - Ginger had 51 kills hitting at a .250 efficiency with 96 digs during the month of September, leading her team to 7 straight wins. Ginger is a captain on the volleyball team, as well as a great player, leader and student. From the coach “Ginger Stephenson is an absolute all around stud on the volleyball court. She can hit, serve, pass and play defense with the best of them and does it all with an awesome positive, contagious attitude.”

Also nominated: Kate Avery (Sophomore) for Cross-Country

Congratulations to Jacob Clark and Maddie James awarded Rockwall High School Jacket Backers August Athletes of the Month. 

Jacob Clark, Junior, Football: Jacob completed 24-32 passes for 399 yards and 5 TDs in Rockwall’s 53-49 win over Highland Park. He led the Jackets to the most points HP has ever allowed in a game. Coach Webb says about Jacob, “Jacob has become a great leader and teammate in addition to his play as our QB. He represents our program with class and great sportsmanship.”

Also nominated Austin Shumake for Cross-Country

Maddie James. Senior, Volleyball: Maddie has led the Jackets to a great start to the season, winning the Rockwall tournament and starting 1-0 in district play. Coach Wilson says about Maddie, “Maddie had an outstanding August and has become an unstoppable force at the net. She’s also stepped up to become one of our top servers.”

Also nominated Ariell Hopkins for Cross-Country

RHS Football Spring Swarm and Powderpuff Football Is Coming!

The Rockwall High School Football Team, RHS Student Council and Jacket Backers Booster Club are teaming up with the Texas High School Coaches Association ‘Our Day to Shine’ charity to kick-off this year’s Spring Swarm.  The Spring Swarm is the annual spring football game to introduce the 2017 Rockwall Yellowjacket Football team and this year is partnered with the annual RHS Powderpuff games!  The event will take place over two days with proceeds going to RHS Senior Class and the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) ‘Our Day To Shine’ campaign.

Coming off another run in in the Texas High School Football Playoffs, the Rockwall Jackets are looking forward to another exciting season in a District 11-6A. “We feel like this group has the potential to be the best we’ve had so far,” said Coach Webb. “There are a bunch of familiar faces back from 2016, as well as some kids that will emerge from the shadows of their predecessors. It’s a great run for the overall athletics program at RHS, and it is a great time to support the great things these kids are doing both on and off the field.”

This year’s spring game and powderpuff games are designed to be a community event and will include Jacket Backers promotions, special guests and a 7-on-7 game between Utley & Williams Middle Schools at half-time of the varsity game.  The Rockwall Cheerleaders, Stingerettes, Jacket Band and Jacket Guard will be on hand for the event.

Spring Swarm is also the kick-off for the annual Jacket Backer membership drive. Rockwall HS Football Community Pep Rally Details

On Thursday, December 3rd at 6:30 PM, Jacket Backers Booster Club will be sponsoring a community pep rally downtown in the plaza next to Zanata.  There will be a few honored guests to speak, and WFAA Channel 8 has a trophy to award our Yellowjackets for being the WFAA Chevy Team of the Week for their comeback win against Spring last Friday night.  Come out and support your Yellowjackets and let them know how proud you are of them and their historic season!!  #JFND  #HereComesTheBoom  #MakinHistory  #JacketFansRule

Rockwall HS Football Team Send-Off & Caravan Details

The Rockwall Jacket Backers are honored to help support our defending, back-to-back District, Bi-District, Area and now Regional Championship Finalist Rockwall HS Yellowjackets football team to College Station on Saturday, December 5th. Our Yellowjackets take on the Cavaliers from Lake Travis High School for the 11-6A D2/R2 Regional Championship. WEAR ORANGE, as we want to Orange Out the Cavaliers!!!

Football Send-Off & Caravan Details:

  • 6:30 am: The Jacket Nation meets at the RHS circle (please park in the student parking lot) to send them off for their playoff battle at Kyle Field in College Station. Please WEAR ORANGE, bring posters, noise makers, flags, etc. to the send-off.
  • 7:00 am: Team buses leave for College Station.
  • 8:00 am: You are invited to join the Jacket Nation caravan, which will reconvene in the Student Parking lot and leave for College Station.  Please have your cars gassed, decorated & ready to roll.  The trip is approximately 3 hours.
  • 11:30 am: The Jacket Nation will meet-up for dinner at Fuego Tortilla Grill at 108 Poplar St., College Station, TX 77840
  • 2:00 pm: Kick-off Rockwall vs Lake Travis

The Rockwall Jacket Backers honored three individuals during a pre-game ceremony at the third annual Spring Swarm football game at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium.  Lifetime Membership in the Jacket Backers' Victory Club were awarded to Mrs. Leigh Plagens, RISD Board of Trustee member and longtime Jacket Backer supporter, Dale Downum, “The Voice of the Jacket Backers” and announcer for Rockwall home football games and the Honorable Ralph Hall, former US Representative, RHS alumni and former Yellowjacket football player.

Jacket Backer President, Rex Fithian, said, “The Victory Club is recognizing these individuals for the important role they have played in our community, Rockwall High School, Yellowjacket Athletics and the Jacket Backers Booster Club.” Leigh Plagens is a former Rockwall High School Teacher (1979 to 2000); RISD Board of Trustees Member (2001 to present); long-time Jacket Backer member and along with her husband Clarence are Charter Members of the Victory Club. Dale Downum has been Rockwall's Football Announcer since 1999 and always demonstrates good sportsmanship and enthusiasm in the broadcast booth that makes a Rockwall football game a first class experience. Ralph Hall, referred to as “Our Congressman” during the ceremony, has served the 4th District in Texas for more than 35 years, placing his priority on the people of this community and helping the area grow and prosper.

The Victory Club is a group of Jacket Backer members who recognize the championship caliber of Rockwall student athletes and share a common desire to help them realize their goals both on and off the field. Jacket Backers is the official athletic booster club for Rockwall High School and supports more than 800 student athletes in 22 sports.

The Rockwall Yellowjackets play Rowlett in the "Ray Hubbard Rivalry" game on Friday, October 24th at 7:30 pm at Wilkerson Sanders Stadium. It's also Military Appreciation Night sponsored by Rockwall Wraps, Rockwall Ford and the RHS Jacket Backers. Part of the program is a special video tribute to RHS alumni who have also served in any branch of military service.

The Jacket Backers also sold "Hunt the Eagles" Rockin' R Camo Military appreciation t-shirts. Proceeds raised will be donated to the Carry The Load organization to grow its vision and execute its mission.

We Thank All members past and present of our Armed Forces for keeping America safe and for protecting our freedom and liberty. We are humbled by your bravery and dedication. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers for your safe return home.
