Each year the district creates and distributes a holiday card showcasing the artistic talents of our very own Rockwall ISD students. This year’s card features artwork from Ally Flores, a sixth-grade student at Stevenson Elementary.

Ally was recognized at the December 19 Board of Trustees meeting where she was given a framed copy of her original art and the finished holiday card, along with copies of the card she can share.

Each art teacher worked with students to create holiday art to be submitted for review. Many creative entries were received, but only one was chosen for the 2016 card.

Congratulations to Ally and her amazing art!

The second-grade students have been doing an author study for the past two weeks, reading several of Chris Van Allsburg’s books.

Mrs. Lavene read The Polar Express, Van Allsburg’s popular holiday book about a boy’s adventure aboard a train headed to the North Pole, to the entire second grade as a treat to cap off the study.

The students will also enjoy a pajama day and a viewing of the movie.

The 6th grade band students at Jones Elementary have learned a lot this year.  To showcase their new skills and to spread some holiday cheer, they traveled around the school this week playing holiday tunes.

The 6th graders were very excited to entertain the school and to have others appreciate their music.

When asked how she felt about caroling around the school, Brooklyn Harmon, a flute player, said, “Did you see us? We went and played for everyone! It was so awesome!”
