Students from Pullen Elementary School recently visited residents at the Broadmoor Senior Living Center in Rockwall to help them enjoy a little Christmas cheer.

They sang Christmas carols with the residents and passed out small gifts such as socks, tissues, lip balm, mints and Christmas ornaments.  It was a great afternoon and a wonderful way for the students to celebrate the season by giving back to those in the community.

This tradition began a few years ago by Elliot Kerbel, a student at Rockwall-Heath HS, who played the guitar while the residents and students sang along.

Rockwall High School students recently collected and donated 868 toys to Helping Hands.  The top two classes to raise the most number of toys were Ms. Dani Leugers’ class that raised approximately 550 toys and the RHS band that raised approximately 150.

Prior to the toys being counted, the crime stoppers board and School Resource Officer Woodruff tried to guess how many toys were being delivered. It was student/board member Keyi (Coco) Ouyang guessed the exact number of 868!

A group of 5th graders at Rochell Elementary have really helped make a difference at their school. They have created a group called M.A.D. also known as the Make A Difference Crew. The crew goes around the school and recycles items, plants new plants around campus, hold bake sales to raise money for campus supplies and also help tutor younger students during their own recess time. Rochell Elementary is another reason why we love Rockwall ISD!

Hartman YAC (Youth Advisory Committee) recently visited Panera Bread and participated in the “Bakers in Training” program.

YAC is a club run by PE Coach Elizabeth Trowbridge and Cafeteria Manager Skyler Amdur.  The goal is to learn healthy lifestyles with food, fitness and giving back to the community.

After the trip to Panera, YAC had collected healthy snacks and compiled goodie bags for the senior residents at Reese Manor.

When they delivered the bags this afternoon, the residents requested some Christmas Carols. Of course, our students were happy to spread some holiday cheer.

A new Rockwall ISD website will debut January 5, prior to the start of classes for the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year.

The launch of the new website is another step toward increasing communication with parents, staff and community members. The website is easy to use, informative, mobile-responsive and has many useful tools for parents.

Some highlights of the new website include:

  • Individual school websites that follows the same template as the district site. All of the school sites can be accessed easily by clicking on “select a school” at the top of the district page.
  • Readily visible shortcuts to key areas such as employment opportunities, an anonymous tip line, social media accounts and more.
  • A slideshow that will showcase great stories happening across the district, which will be updated daily.
  • ‘Top Stories and Announcements” section that will host daily updates with all sorts of great Rockwall ISD information and stories.
  • A robust calendar that gives visitors the ability to subscribe to any or all of the calendars and have them sync to your smart phone. This is done by selecting the green ical icon located in the top right of the calendar page.

The website will continue to be developed through the remaining school year and a free mobile app is expected to be available to parents later in spring 2017.

Rockwall HS Chain Reaction Club students visited Reinhardt Elementary, opened car doors and greeted Reinhardt students with smiles and hi-fives.  They then presented a lesson on kindness to Reinhardt second graders.

The following day, a Reinhardt student wrote in their writing journal, “Kindness means everything in someone.  You can make a change.  You can help people by being kind.”

Thank you to Mrs. Gamble and Mrs. Morrison for their hard work on this day and Mrs. Archer, Mrs. Hyvl, Mrs. Hurt and Mrs. Alexander for opening their doors to RHS students.
