Rockwall Summer Musicals Proudly Presents The Family Favorite Annie

- August 9-11 and 16-18, 2019 -

Get Tickets Today at RockwallSummerMusicals.org

July 26, 2019 (Rockwall, TX) – While other communities must travel into Dallas to get quality musicals and theater, people around Rockwall do not.  Each year since 2011, Rockwall Summer Musicals has provided Broadway-scale productions in our growing community. Annie will be presented at Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center at Utley, 1201 TL Townsend Drive, Rockwall, Texas, 75087 for two weekends: August 9-11 and 16-18, 2019.

Annie will steal your heart as she is taken from her orphanage, and the clutches of evil Miss Hannigan, to stay at billionaire Oliver Warbuck’s mansion for the holidays.  When Annie wins the love of the Warbucks and his staff, they set out on an epic mission to find Annie’s parents.  Meanwhile, Miss Hannigan, in partnership with her brother, Rooster and his girlfriend, Lily, attempt to make some money out of this unique situation.  The stories become intertwined as the lovable Annie’s story hits the national spotlight.  Come hear the memorable tunes such as “Tomorrow” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.”

Rockwall Summer Musicals is excited this year to highlight the needs of the local community as our story highlights a beloved childhood character.  Partnering with Rainbow Room of Rockwall County, we ask those who attend our shows to bring donations of school supplies.  Everyone who brings a donation will gain a ticket to an exclusive raffle that will offer special prizes.  The Rainbow Room provides essential items for children in crisis in the Rockwall area.  We are excited to be able to help them to provide for the needs of children like those in the story of Annie that we will bring to life.

According to Rockwall County Judge, David Sweet, “If you haven’t attended a performance put on by Rockwall Summer Musicals, you’re missing out. Rockwall is full of amazing talent.  All of those that perform, or work in any role of production for that matter, put every bit of their talent into making it a first-class production.  Barbara Doudt is an extremely talented director with lots of experience and gets the most out of all around her. Performing arts adds to the culture and quality of life in any community and Rockwall Summer Musicals knocks it out of the park in Rockwall.”

This year, our production costs are being generously underwritten by contributors like you and sponsored by Dave Kirwan, City of Rockwall, www.rockwall.com/hotels.asp, Sharron Hale, Reed Bentley, Roberta Pavlov, Lawyer’s Title, Mischler Builders, Claudette Hatfield, Jake Rathmell, Marvis Kisselburgh, Leigh Plagens and Rodney Jaynes. We perform at the fabulous facilities at Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center at Utley Middle School, which equal or exceed many other popular metroplex summer musical venues. We have attracted a powerful roster of leadership from among a well-known list of theatrical and community giants.

About Rockwall Summer Musicals

Rockwall Summer Musicals has a far-reaching impact in our community and in all North Texas. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Rockwall Summer Musicals relies on a variety of funding sources to present quality Broadway-scale productions in our growing community. Ticket sales account for only a portion of our production costs, so we depend on the generous support from committed businesses, foundations and individuals to make these programs possible. By working together, we can continue to enrich the lives of audiences and our community through extraordinary musical theater.

Rockwall Summer Musicals (RSM) is a theatre company formed for the purpose of producing plays and conducting intergenerational theatrical workshops from May to August each year.

Our unique “mentoring” instructional approach provides an educational experience that cannot be reproduced in the classroom. Pairing students with working artisans in our own community creates a learning experience that cannot be duplicated during the school year. Whereas funding for the arts seems to be ever-shrinking, our efforts will help subsidize the educational needs of area schools.

During the school year, RSM will prepare for the next summer season, including fundraising, reading and selecting plays, marketing, and seeking additional instructional opportunities. RSM’s activities will be funded by donations businesses and corporations, individuals, ticket sales, and paid memberships. Net revenues will be used for overhead expenses and as seed money for future productions and to supplement the education of area school children and teens.

June 20, 2019 (Rockwall, TX) – While other cities in North Texas rely on the Dallas Summer Musicals to provide them with quality musicals and theater, Rockwall is special.  Each year since 2011, Rockwall Summer Musicals provides Broadway-scale productions in their growing community. Thoroughly Modern Millie, under the direction of Joseph Jones will be presented at Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center at Utley, 1201 TL Townsend Drive, Rockwall, Texas, 75087 for two weekends:  June 21-23 and June 28-30, 2019.

Set in New York in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who arrives from Kansas to New York in search of a new life for herself.  Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a villainess who audiences love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. From the explosive tap numbers to a Fred and Ginger routine on a window ledge this is a toe tapping good time for all!

Rockwall Summer Musicals is excited this year to highlight some special talent who are involved in this production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. In addition to including new, developing talent from Rockwall High School, Sunnyvale High School and other local colleges and schools, the lead of Millie is played by Kynzi Gumm.  Kynzi is from a long line of talent as her grandfather and Judy Garland’s father were cousins.  Kynzi stated, “Sutton Foster (the original Millie on Broadway) has always been a role model for me and it has been a dream of mine to play in every show where she starred.  To get the opportunity to play Millie Dillmount is huge for me!”  Kynzi continued, “This character has pushed me in so many ways and I can’t wait to explore more of Millie for the audience.”
