On Wednesday, November 4th, Medical City Children’s Hospital kicked off its Kids Teaching Kids – 21-Day Challenge Competition. People in attendance enjoyed an event to observe the creativity of high school students, recognized teachers and key individuals that help make the event happen and helped kick off the district-to-district “snack talk.”

The program had key speakers, Keith Zimmerman the Medical City Children’s CEO, Jason Villalba State Representative, Dr. Jeremy Lyon the Superintendent of Frisco Schools and Ryan Eason, the Community Relations Manager for HCA North Texas.

The Kids Teaching Kids program is designed to educate and engage high school and elementary students in better nutrition. High school culinary students are challenged to create healthy, flavorful, kid-friendly snacks, while the younger children learn that healthy eating can be delicious and fun! This year, Rockwall ISD’s culinary class wrote healthy snack and meal recipes that elementary-aged students would be able to make on their own.

Starting January 25, 2016 Rockwall ISD hopes to motivate every elementary student to sign up for the 21-Day Challenge in order to make a healthier snack by themselves, at home, for 21 straight days. Rockwall ISD will compete against Wylie ISD in the 21-Day Challenge! Click here to learn more about the kids-teaching-kids program.
